Silicon Carbide is a manufactured mineral of extreme hardness and sharpness. It's the best abrasive for grinding/sanding low-tensile-strength materials like Cast Iron, Brass, Aluminum, Bronze, etc. Its thermal characteristics make it an excellent crucible and refractory manufacturing material. Silicon Carbide is created through an electrochemical process that uses quartz (silica) and Carbon (in raw petroleum coke form). The mixture is placed in an electrical resistance furnace and heated above 2200°C to yield high-quality crystals.
