Fused silica is a completely synthetic material, and is considered to be the purest glass. It has the highest temperature rating of any glass and often starts as pure silicon glass. Fused Silica's manufacturing process gives it superior UV performance compared to natural quartz, making it ideal for applications such as UV transmitting optics.
