The calcination process of natural kaolin at high temperatures in a kiln modifies the size and shape of particles, as well as increases whiteness and hardness. Consequently, this impacts electrical properties between an aluminium oxide film and conducting metal.
In order to obtain the calcined kaolin with the desired physical and electrical properties, it is crucial to control both the temperature and residence time in the kiln. The most common method of production involves rotary kilns. The specific calcination process increases whiteness and hardness of the clay, alters the size and shape of the kaolin particles, and improves its electrical properties. Calcination makes the powder more white and more chemically inert.

Calcined kaolin is used as a paint extender. In paint, calcined kaolin has shown to be an effective extender for titanium dioxide (white) pigment. It is widely used in the making of paper, rubber, paint, and many other products.
Synthetic zeolites: Calcined clay is used as an express source of alumina and silica to produce synthetic zeolites. These are then used in the refineries and petrochemical industries as molecular sieves.
Paint: Calcined Kaolin is used as a functional extender in paint. Calcined kaolin has proven to be an excellent extender for titanium dioxide (white) pigment in paint. Its hardness improves physical durability of the paint film and its burn resistance.
Rubber & Plastics: It is used as a filler in rubber and plastics and helps impart tensile strength. Hence it is a reinforcing filler instead of being non-reinforcing like hydrous kaolin.
Can be used in both waters based and solvent based applications.
Superior other clays by its softness, whiteness and ease of dispersion in water.
Its high whiteness provides uniform particle distribution, high dispersibility and thixotropy.
High gloss and covering increase production quality.
